Where does one
start describing what has been a fascinating journey? Maybe a
bit of background information would help.
I am a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) by qualification and
experience - over 30 years of experience plying my trade.
Being a
CFP entailed dealing with people on a daily basis and selling them an
intangible - a promise of some future event.
In many, in fact most, cases it was providing a service that people
needed but didn't want. My life consisted of cold calling and
forever trying to obtain new referrals and new clients. It
was
never ending and I did enjoy it and the money was good. Like
all
occupations the longer I stayed in it the larger my network became and
the easier the job was.
But then came the first of 2 life
changing decisions.
We, my wife and I, decided to emigrate for the sake of our children.
This was a huge move at age 44 with a very successful
business to
leave behind. But .................. the decision having been
made there was no turning back.
Starting over in a new country where I had no contacts and far less
energy than when I was 25 was tough. I had lost my enthusiasm
for
the business in a country where people very much rely on the Government
to look after them in times of need!
I wonder if they will ever
realize the importance of taking care of yourself!
I tried selling real estate as I had made some money dealing in
property. But that too needed time to build up a network -
time
that I just did not have as the bills came in like clockwork - although
this particular clock seemed to tick very quickly. I bought
lotto
tickets every week. I tried Multi Level Marketing with some
success through Sky Biz (later shut down because it was deemed to be a
pyramid scheme) and Melaleuca. The latter is a great company
and
has been going for 26 odd years. I know lots of people who
earn
good money selling Melaleuca products. It is hard work and
ongoing. The structure of Multi Level Marketing companies is
such
that you need to keep at it, attending meetings and recruiting new
members in order to ensure you continue to receive your monthly checks.
It was not for me. I could not with conviction sell
something that to me appeared like the emphasis was on the business
side of things and not the product.
Then
came the second life changing decision.
On 26th November,2006 while surfing the Internet - to check if my lotto
ticket had won anything (believe it or not!) I spotted a little Goggle
Ad that said:
"How I
Made $72,000.00 In My First Year."
I
clicked on this Google Ad (as I later learned it was called) and the
rest is history. It wasn't a direct intro into Internet
Affiliate
Marketing but amongst some of the other crap I bought for
$67.00
was an introduction to Wealthy Affiliate University. It was
the
first I had heard of them, and
according to the Wealthy Affiliate website I would get the most
advanced set of tools and training resources, plus 1-1 support from
Kyle and Carson (the original Wealthy Affiliates) themselves.
The more I read about it the more it made sense to me. Here
was a
business that required no large capital outlay, no ongoing monthly
purchases, no meetings and crucially no recruiting. I had
witnessed first hand how people felt about being invited to "business
opportunities" which turned out to be Tupperware parties or a Usana or
similar meeting. Don't get me wrong these are successful
businesses , but why the secrecy? The trick is to get the
person
to attend and then hopefully lure them into becoming a client.
I
don't like to do business like that!
Internet Affiliate Marketing was EXACTLY
what I had
been looking for, a business that would pay me for my efforts
at
doing a good and honest job...but was it all too good to be true?
For $29.99 per month I was prepared to give it a go - after
all I was only committed to one month.
I didn't know
then that this decision would change my life.
I
was overwhelmed when
I first joined Wealthy Affiliate - this was a whole new (and foreign)
world to me. I had no idea what it was all about and even
though
the WA University has changed a great deal since I joined back in 2006,
it was still hard to take in the quality and volume of the
training resources made available to members even at that time.
I spent my days reading about stuff that sounded like Greek to me.
But there were others in the WA community that were just as
ignorant as me and yet others that had been there only a while longer
who were already making a few sales despite being in the same boat as
me only a few short months earlier.
Then there were the expert marketers that appeared to be on hand
whenever I needed them...I was in awe of these highly
successful people, and was amazed
that they even wanted to speak to me! But they did, and it soon became
apparent to me that Wealthy Affiliate was a community full of helpers.
To this end I am eternally grateful to Travis, DaveB, Thad, Hugh, Pot
Pie Girl and a host of others as well as Kyle and Carson themselves.
Finding my first niche and making my first sale was the hardest part
for me. many a time there was when I thought I was not going
to
make it but I persevered. In truth I had no choice but I also
desperately wanted to succeed at this.
Eventually that first sale came, then the second - much quicker, then
the first $100.00 day. That was an awesome feeling - to know
that
I could make sales which could generate $100.00 in commission in sales
to people I would never meet. People that lived in America or
the
UK or Australia and who had been to my business and felt confident
enough to buy the product I recommended.
It is truly an awesome feeling to open up my stats every day and see
commission I have earned in this way. I never tire of it and
each
day is a challenge to make each campaign just a little more successful.
That means finding out a little more about my clients and
their
needs or dreams and helping them find it.
Many
people assume that there's some big secret when it comes to generating
a full time income online, but I believe it comes down to just 3 things
- good training...good support...and EFFORT.
I was lucky I found Wealthy Affiliate Univeristy from the start.
With the support and training that is offered I was
able to
persevere in the knowledge that success was inevitable - as it is to
anyone.
That brings me to the "effort" part, and that is where YOU come in. If
you want to change your life even half as much as I did when I first
joined, there's absolutely no reason why you can't. Just give
it
a go, ask questions and persevere. I won't tell you to have
fun
because that is a given part of this business.
This truly is a long term and satisfying business and I have Wealthy
Affiliate University to thank for it.
Why not do yourself and your family a favor and take a look in side Wealthy Affiliate University
to-day? You won't be sorry.
